Brahms’ Tragic Overture sets the stage for the world premiere of Ittai Shapira’s Concerto for Violin and Soprano, Chunhyang, the story of which is considered the Korean Romeo and Juliet. Grammy Award-winning soprano Hila Plitmann performs. The concert concludes with highlights from one of the greatest ballet scores ever composed, Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.
Described by The New York Times as “an Israeli dynamo with a flourishing solo violin career,” featured composer Ittai Shapira regularly performs with prestigious artists across the globe. In his dual role as violinist-composer, he follows a long line of musicians who, in writing and performing their own works, have relished both forms of creativity.
