Dear Festival Friends, Donors, Sponsors, and Patrons:
To say that 2020 will be remembered as one of the most challenging years we have ever faced is an understatement. Amidst the challenges, though, I think we can all agree that we have seen acts of kindness, generosity, and resiliency even in the face of uncertainty.
Arts organizations across the country, in particular, struggle to find a way to survive financially while also attempting to stay connected with their audiences as so many people needed the calming influence of music.
The Festival is so happy to have had such success with its “From the Heart” live stream chamber series which was presented over five weeks this summer. Our goal was to stay active and connected with our patrons and musicians—as well as reach as many people as possible. We were very pleased to have had over 5700 viewers to the series and we learned a lot about the effectiveness of live streaming and its artistic potential should restrictions to live performance continue in the future.
Throughout the summer and fall, we continue to work with over 20 school district music teachers to provide music education programs. Our Festival musicians have generously agreed to help by visiting with students via zoom conferencing to present master classes, educational videos, participate in “pen pal” programs, and even perform compositions written by the students. Our educational goal is to work with over 5,000 children in the 2020-2021 season.
No one can predict at this time whether we can all be together again next summer. But what we can promise is that the Festival will continue to stay connected with its family of donors, patrons, students, and friends. Whether it is outdoor concerts, more live-stream performances, or back in our home at the Silver Center, we will continue to be the summer music festival that you all have supported over the past 68 years.
Your support is never taken for granted and always deeply appreciated. We hope we can count on your support again as we come to the end of uniquely memorable year.
Stay safe and well.
Sincerely,
Lucinda Williams
